Hailing from northern Morocco, Blue Tansy is a new single oil now offered by doTERRA. It may sound familiar to you already—that’s because Blue Tansy is a key ingredient in some doTERRA blends, including doTERRA Balance® and Deep Blue®. Experimental research indicates that this oil is useful for helping to keep skin looking healthy, due to chamazulene, the same chemical that gives the oil its characteristic deep indigo color. In fact, it is already being put to use in the new Anti-Aging Eye Cream as part of the updated Essential Skin Care line.

Our Favourite Uses

Although this is not an oil that you can take internally, you can use Blue Tansy in a variety of ways both topically and aromatically.

  1. As previously mentioned, Blue Tansy can be great for your skin. We like adding it to our facial cleanser to help reduce the appearance of blemishes. You can also add it into your moisturizer to soothe your skin.

  2. Blue Tansy’s mellow and slightly fruity scent has specific uplifting properties that help create a positive atmosphere when diffused. Try creating your own blends! Oils that go well with Blue Tansy include Geranium, Clary Sage, Petitgrain, Lavender, Juniper Berry, Spearmint, and Ylang Ylang.
  3. Combine with Lavender and Fractionated Coconut Oil for a soothing massage after a long day. Other oils you can combine it with include Wintergreen, Cypress, or even AromaTouch®.

  4. Add six drops to your bath with one tablespoon Fractionated Coconut Oil and one cup Epsom salt for a calming and relaxing atmosphere. Alternately, add Blue Tansy to these bath bombs.

Interesting Facts

  • Another name for Blue Tansy is the Moroccan Tansy thanks to its country of origin.

  • Blue Tansy’s botanical name is Tanacetum annuum, not to be confused with Tanacetum vulgare or common tansy oil, which has a very different chemical make-up.

Helpful Tip

The characteristic indigo color of the oil may stain some surfaces, fabric, and skin. For this reason, it may be a good idea to purchase child-resistant caps to keep children from accidently spilling the oil on a surface where it won’t come out. However, when it comes to using it with the moisturizer in your skin care routine or diluting it in Fractionated Coconut Oil for a massage, it is unlikely to leave any trace.

Excited to try Blue Tansy oil? It will be available October 2, 2017!

Essential Oil Spotlight

Plant Description

Bergamot essential oil comes from the bergamot fruit, grown primarily in Reggio di Calabria, Italy. Bergamot is unique to Reggio di Calabria because it thrives in the fresh sea-air and acidic soil found in this area. This climate allows growers to harvest high quality fruit that will produce pure essential oil. Different from other citrus fruits, bergamot is actually a bitter-tasting fruit that yields a sweet essential oil. Similar to Lemon essential oil, Bergamot is produced through cold pressing, where the Bergamot rind is mechanically squeezed—producing pure essential oil.
Emotional well-being
Blue Tansy
Inspired Action

Blue Tansy supports those who resist taking action to change or transform their circumstances. It is especially helpful when individuals have become stagnant in their progression. It provides a kind of catalytic spark that overcomes the tendency to vacillate, avoid, or procrastinate. Blue Tansy necessitates that individuals choose  to take the helm of their life. It also encourages individuals to live in alignment with the whispering of their inner voice, prompting them to make necessary changes. When an individual represses these messages, they often feel lethargic, drained, apathetic, sluggish, and exhausted. Blue Tansy invites individuals to take the initiative to reclaim the life they dream of.

Blue Tansy invites individuals to manifest their passion into action. This is especially important where there is a desire to retreat or self-sabotage. By creating more inward mobility, Blue Tansy encourages them to accept all that is, including emotional setbacks and other challenges which must be overcome t actualise inspiration and sustain change. Blue Tansy teaches that each act is based on choice and requires individuals to own the responsibility of their cumulative choices. It demands personal mastery and purposeful action in achieving one's fullest potential.
